The wildebeest is designed to eat effortlessly and quickly, leaving short stubs of lawn-like grass in its wake. Its [I 012 / teeth] are composed of vertical layers of enamel sandwiched between two harder areas of ivory, which keep the teeth sharp. Its highly developed [G 30 / maxilla] enables it to carry out a variety of chewing motions: up and down, side to side and back to front. The upper [G 24 / incisors] have been replaced by a hard pad in the front of the upper jaw for the lower incisors to bite against.
